In executive search, some roles are hard to fill—not because the talent doesn’t exist, but because traditional hiring methods don’t work.
Flavourtech, a global leader in food processing technology, needed a Senior Technical Manager to drive innovation and lead a high-performing team. But finding the right candidate wasn’t just about skills and experience—it was about overcoming the challenge of relocation to regional Australia.
This case study highlights how ELR Executive navigated industry barriers, expanded the search beyond food and beverage, and identified the perfect leader in a market where others had failed.
Many great candidates wouldn’t relocate to regional NSW, while those willing lacked senior-level experience.
ELR Executive knew a traditional search wouldn’t work, so they:
Mapped the food and beverage sector for the best engineering talent.
Expanded into pharmaceuticals, identifying candidates with transferable skills.
Engaged 132 professionals, filtering for expertise and relocation flexibility.
By adapting the search, ELR Executive delivered a high-impact hire who met Flavourtech’s needs and embraced the move.
Every executive search comes with unique challenges—but when the biggest obstacle is location, it takes more than a standard recruitment process to succeed.
Flavourtech needed a Senior Technical Manager with expertise in a highly specialised field that demands precision, efficiency, and a deep understanding of continuous processing systems. The role also required strong leadership skills to manage technical teams, oversee large-scale projects, and work directly with global clients.
Beyond technical expertise, the ideal candidate had to align with Flavourtech’s commitment to innovation. The company is known for pushing the boundaries of food and beverage manufacturing, so finding a leader who could not only manage existing systems but also drive future advancements was critical.
Adding to the complexity, the role was based in regional NSW, making it difficult to attract senior-level candidates. Many experienced professionals were well-established in major cities, with families, property investments, and existing career commitments that made relocation unlikely.
To widen the talent pool, ELR Executive looked beyond the food and beverage sector. The pharmaceutical industry emerged as a strong alternative, with professionals experienced in high-precision, temperature-sensitive processing—a skill set highly relevant to Flavourtech’s operations. This strategic expansion provided access to candidates with transferable expertise and a strong background in technical leadership, problem-solving, and innovation-driven environments.
ELR Executive worked closely with both Flavourtech and the candidates to ensure a seamless selection process. Managing expectations, coordinating interviews, and offer negotiations. Given the relocation challenges, ELR Executive also provided guidance on regional relocation, addressing key concerns around housing, schooling, and community integration.
We maintained constant communication with Flavourtech and the appointed candidate to support their relocation and onboarding. We assisted with family transition considerations, and ensured the candidate felt fully supported before their official start. This hands-on approach guaranteed a smooth integration into both the company and the local community, setting them up for long-term success.
